Kent Spitfire Nightshoot - Biggin Hill, Kent, 12th November 2011

Review -
This was my first aviation nightshoot and the first organised by the Kent Spitfire team at Biggin Hill.  On show was the Kent Spitfire herself, MkIX TA805 alongside newly acquired MkIXc MK912 which had previously spent some years in the USA before returning to the UK and Peter Monk's ownership in 2011.  Both Rolls Royce Merlins were fired up and the appreciative audience were treated to some great 'blue flame' exhaust effects as the iconic crackle and pop of the Merlin's sounded out across the damp, increasingly foggy air.  Once the Spitfires had been run the Collection's Harvard IIB (returned to the air by MAPS in 2005) was also run with more blue exhaust flames emanating from the aircraft's Pratt & Whitney R-1340 engine.  After the engine runs the machines were pushed back into the relative warmth of the hangar and Clive Denney, one of TA805's pilot's, hosted a Q&A which added a welcome element to the event.

In summary this was a great event and aviationphoto looks forward to more of the same in 2012!
