Comment - The Gatwick Aviation Museum, in partnership with Threshold Aero, held their second photography nightshoot on Saturday March 7. The chilled night air of an early Saturday evening was briefly shattered by the thunderous growl of nearly 8,000 hp worth of Rolls Royce Griffon engines and contra-rotating propellers as Avro Shackleton Mk3 WR982 sprang into life, the highlight of an excellent nightshoot at the Surrey museum. Originally planned for October 2019, the event was still able to benefit from sunset time of around 6pm, allowing the 118 assembled photographers to shoot twilight images of the engine run and a selection of the museum’s other exhibits, several of which had been brought outside and appropriately floodlit. Attention to detail was evident with LED lights placed to replicate the aircraft’s red and green wingtip navigation lights, while different set ups with the Lightning’s cockpit canopy and access ladder were also possible facilitating many ‘different from the norm’ images of these iconic Cold War warriors.
