Dunsfold Wings & Wheels Airshow, Surrey - 24th August 2014

Comment -
This was my fifth visit to Dunsfold Wings & Wheels since 2006 and for me the main draw this year was my only chance to see the Canadian Warplane Heritage's Lancaster MK.X C-GVRA in the sky with our very own Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's B.1 PA474.  Much has been written about the tour and the brave and pioneering decision by CWH to bring only the world's two remaining airworthy Lancasters together and what a sight and sound this was.  Absolutely exceptional and something that is unlikely to be witnessed again.  The rest of the show packed a good punch with a great cross section of classics from the Great Warbird Display Team celebrating the centenary of the beginning of World War One, to the fantastic formation of Midair Squadron's Canberra PR9 and Hunter T7 resplendent in their silver schemes.  Warbirds included the Hangar 11 Collection's Hurribomber, the Old Flying Machine Company's Spitfire IX MH434 and P-51D Mustang 'Ferocious Frankie' showing some graceful formation manoeuvres and tightly flown passes while heavier metal came in the shape of the Royal Netherlands Air Force Historic Flight's TB-25N Mitchell bomber.  To keep classic jet fans happy Jet Provost T5 G-BWSG  was displayed while the mighty delta, Avro Vulcan B2 XH558 powered through steely grey skies getting ever closer to giving photographers the opportunity for a topside pass facing the crowd...
