Military and Flying Machines Show - Damyns Hall Aerodrome, Essex - August 3, 2014

Comment -
Damyns Hall Aerodrome in Essex, situated just to the south east of the site of the former RAF Hornchurch, hosted the Military & Flying Machines show on the 2nd and 3rd August. Run by the Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association (HMVA), the show is primarily a showcase for the HMVA member’s tanks, trucks and other vehicles. However, since being based at Damyns Hall from 2006, the flying display has become an increasingly significant part of the event. Blessed with sunny, if somewhat blustery condition, this year’s display featured some great flying from all ranges of the aviation field including unlimited aerobatics from CAP 232 G-IIRP, wing-walking from home-based Stearman G-CCXA and a powerful display from Yak 52 G-CBOZ. Warbirds also featured, helicopter fans being treated to the distinctive sound of a Huey, with ex-Argentine Army UH-1H G-HUEY making its second appearance at the show, while Aces High’s North Weald based Dakota ‘L4’ commemorated the 70th anniversary of the airborne part of the D-Day landings. P-51D Mustang ‘Marinell’ came down from Hardwick with Rob Davies at the controls while closing the show in a highly evocative manner was Dan Griffiths in Biggin Hill based Spitfire XVI RW382.
